SPRING LAKE — A pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning when he was hit by a train about 3 a.m. on the tracks east of the Spring Lake station, according to NJ Transit spokesman Jim Smith.
The pedestrian was only identified as a male; his name, age and town of residence were not released.
The pedestrian was struck and killed by North Jersey Coast Line train 4795, which left Long Branch at 2:42 a.m. and was headed for Bay Head, Smith said.
"There were no injuries to the approximately eight customers or the crew on board at the time," he said. "This was the last train of the service day so there were no other service impacts."
NJ Transit Police are investigating.
