Coming Attractions for Meeting Presentations

Post by Dave Alan »

We always begin our meetings with a presentation about our local rail lines, or transit in general. Our presenters include our own members, managers from New Jersey Transit, and other invited guests. We have an interesting and varied group of presentations scheduled during the next few months.

On January 26, Robert Serlin, President of RIM, a Rail Infrastructure Management company, and his colleague Jim Michel, Technical chair of the High Speed and Intercity Rail Committee at APTA (the American Public Transportation Association), will present their views on Amtrak and Increasing Regional Rail Ridership. Their presentation will include a discussion of Amtrak-owned infrastructure in the New Jersey and New York region, and its future.

On February 23d, Alan S. Drake, a Consulting Engineer who monitors the oil industry and worked with the legendary Ed Tennyson in planning improvements for Metro Rail in Washington, D.C., will present his concept of An Innovative Approach to Transit in Our Region. He will take a fresh look at future needs for transit in the New York and New Jersey region, suitable for a time when oil will not be as plentiful as it is today.

Our presenter on March 23d will be Michael Slack, Chief Information Officer at NJ Transit. He will give us an update about what's new in IT at NJT.

We know that more rail tunnel capacity between New Jersey and New York City is needed, but we also know that it will take time to complete any project of that magnitude. At our April 27th meeting, our Treasurer, Jesse Gribin, will share his ideas about how our transit network can keep everybody moving until a tunnel project is completed.

Our meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 at Millburn Town Hall, 375 Millburn Avenue, within walking distance of the Millburn Station on the Morris & Essex Line. If you are not a Coalition member, we invite you to come to a meeting, hear the presentation and meet us. We hope you will decide to join our organization and help us fight for better transit to serve our communities.
